Powder coatings are complex formulations and require proper storage to ensure longevity and spray-ability. In terms of storage, raw powder has two main adversaries they are heat and moisture.

Eventually, powder will begin to absorb moisture which can affect how the powder sprays and how the powder performs, which is something to be aware of before grabbing that 3 year old box of powder. Powder should always be stored away from extreme heat. Something to keep in mind is that temperatures inside a car on a hot summer day can exceed 140°F, which over time can cause powder to harden to the point where it can become unusable. This is one of the main reasons we provide 1 day shipping. Powder left for days on hot shipping docks and/or delivery trucks can damage the powder.

What is the best way to store my powder?

We suggest storing powder in a low humidity environment and at about 70°F (21°C).

How long can powder be stored?

If kept in these optimal conditions, powder should have no problem maintaining a shelf life of 6-8 months and perhaps longer. Using powder that has been stored beyond the 6-8 month shelf life can sometimes cause issues.
