The amount of powder that is required for a job largely depends on the powder itself, the application, equipment, and the technique.
Theoretically, 1 lb. of powder can cover 25-30 square ft.

FAQ's:
Q: How many pounds for a set of wheels 18"?
A: 2 pounds of powder should adequately coat a set of (4) 18" wheels.
Q: Do your calculations figure any overspray / waste?
A: The 25-30sq.ft coverage estimate is used more as a baseline when measuring square footage, keeping in mind there are many variables in this calculation. The formula used to figure a colors exact coverage is (square footage) x (transfer efficiency %) divided by (specific gravity) x (film thickness) = coverage in square feet per lb. at 100% efficiency.
Note: Transfer efficiency may vary based on manufacturer and model of the powder coating equipment. Contact your equipment manufacturer for details.
Q: I am planning to powder coat a CJ7 body. I want to only do the outside of the body with the exception of the hood and inner fender wells. All other parts will be shot with bed liner spray. I come up with around 80 square ft. 15lbs of color and of clear should cover this, correct? Also Illusion/Dormant sour apple with clear is UV resistant, is it not?
A: Theoretically 15 lbs. should be enough, however there are considerations that should be made, such as the efficiency of the equipment and technique, as these can vary the amount needed. Illusion/Dormant Sour Apple is a UV stable color.
Q: Can I take it from your response, that I need 1 pound of powder to completely cover 2 17inch motorbike wheels. Presumably 1 pound of Goldtastic and 1 pound of Clear Vision?
A: Theoretically, yes. Assuming relatively efficient spraying methods and equipment.
Q: How many pounds of powder would I need for a yeti rambler?
A: You would need very little for a Yeti Rambler, you could probably do at least 10 to 15 Ramblers with a pound of powder.
Q: How many yeti cups will one pound do?
A: A lot will depend on specific spraying equipment, technique and the specific color. Using our calculation for theoretical coverage 1 lb. could potentially cover 25-30 sq. which could mean a lot of cups. Until you know just how efficient your equipment and technique is, it can be difficult to say, but I would think that you should be able to get 10-15 cups, and perhaps more if you're mindful.
Q: How many pounds of powder would it take to coat a bicycle frame?
A: 1 pound of powder should be enough to cover a bicycle frame, assuming reasonably efficient application, although technique and equipment can alter the amount that may be needed depending on efficiency.
Q: How many pounds of powder do I need for a truck lift kit?
A: It really depends on the lift kit, how many pieces, size of pieces etc. A rough estimate would be 6-8 lbs. for the average IFS style kit with aftermarket cross member. But again that is a rough estimate and there are other variables such as coating technique and equipment efficiency. Unless you are coating them yourself, I would also recommend contacting and consulting whoever you will be having coat the job.
Q: How many pounds of powder would it take to coat a car frame that is 13ft long?
A: When coating a car frame of this size, we would recommend using between 3-5 pounds of powder for each finish.
Q: How many pounds of powder should I purchase to complete a set of 15" or 17" wheels?
A: We recommend using 2 lbs. of powder to complete each application. If the color is a top coat, both base coat and top coat must be purchased in the same quantities.
